Therapy For the Non

Why it’s Helpful

One of our basic beliefs is that most NonBPs could benefit tremendously from therapy. What exactly is it about therapy that is useful? Well, to begin with, in a relationship with someone exhibiting borderline traits, you question your version of reality. A therapist can validate your realistic feelings, and challenge you when your feelings or reactions are not normal. A good therapist that knows about borderline personality disorder can educate you as to when your significant other is exhibiting specific traits of the disorder. A therapist can help you to rebuild your shattered self esteem. A therapist can work through the stay/leave decision with you. A therapist can help you feel again.

Going to therapy is best done alone. If your partner insists, you can go together if you wish, but you should also have some time by yourself with your therapist for optimum benefit.
