You can learn a lot about BPD by watching movies with characters who have BPD characteristics.

Gaslight - Good movie. The trick to this one is figuring out who is insane and who is not.

Midnight Lace -

Single White Female - Jennifer Jason Leigh plays a BP with a vengeance. Warning, it gets graphic at the end. Good for Nons that want to release some of that pent up tension... :-)

A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) Stella is a classic BP, played with stunning accuracy by Vivian Leigh (in addition, this is in the AFI top 100 American films of all time - Highly Recommended)

Mommie Dearest A classic movie about a classic high functioning borderline.

The Ex - This is one scary BP!!

Not as good

Girl Interrupted

While Girl Interrupted is a fine movie, as an educational piece about BPD it leaves something to be desired. First off, it indicates that the patient got better, sort of. This is not common, and is thus misleading from an educational standpoint. This is not to say that James Bond represents the typical british gentleman, just that Hollywood has a certain unrealistic viewpoint of the world. If you turn the movie on it’s head though, you will get some amazing insight into projection. You see, I have no doubt that the author of Girl Interrupted actually had BPD, because she has projected BP behaviors onto nearly every other character in the movie. If you want to learn about BPD, watch all the characters EXCEPT Winnona Ryder’s character. They nearly all exhibit strong, albeit different BP behaviors. The author has so cleansed her own part in the movie that her own BP is unrecognizable other than an admission to a suicide attempt.

Possible Borderline Characters

Anywhere But Here - This movie in some ways demonstrates BP behaviors on the part of both the mother and the daughter.

Drop Dead Gorgeous - The mom in this movie might well qualify... maybe the daughter too... Is BPD inherited? You betcha.

Here is a list of Bad Women in movies... maybe there are a few BPs lurking in there...
